Developed by Allergan, Volbella is a new injectible filler for non-surgical lip augmentation and restoration. Its new patented hyaluronic acid formula results in less swelling, and long-lasting results. Volbella is used to smooth lip lines which develop with age, leaving your lips plumper, and to smooth fine lines around the lip area.
Introduced in Paris, Juvederm Volbella is now being used in Europe and Canada. Its arrival in the United States is awaiting approval by the Food and Drug Administration. This new variation of lip enhancer creates soft and more natural-looking lips in an effort to say goodbye to the “fish lips” previously associated with lip injections.
What Makes Volbella Unique
Volbella uses Vycross technology, improving the hyaluronic acid cross-linking of the gel to be injected. The uniqueness of this technological improvement results in less water absorption, and therefore less swelling than previous fillers. More natural and longer-lasting results are the effects of this new process.
Volbella contains lidocaine with each injection, making the procedure less painful. One injection is expected to cost from approximately $800-$900, but lasting for a full year, requiring less injections overall.
Volbella Can Improve These Lip Concerns
Volbella was developed specifically for lips, and lines around the mouth area. With age, hyaluronic acid is lost, creating lines that we would rather not see. Small injections of Volbella can help to:
- Smooth the fine, vertical lines, appearing around the lips (also known as “smoker’s lines)
- Treat oral commissures, or where the corners of the mouth turn down
- Define the natural lip contour by accentuating the vermillion border, or outline of the lips
- Treat marionette lines which appear from the corners of the mouth, down to the chin
- Enhance cupid’s bow, or the dip in the middle of the upper lip
The Volbella Procedure– Your Doctor of choice should be certified, and trained in Juvederm Volbella injections. An in-depth conversation about your medical history, needs, expectations, and options should be held.
Injection – Because Volbella contains lidocaine, anesthesia is not necessary. You may feel a pinch of the fine needle used to inject. Because Volbella is a hyaluronic acid based gel, it is a smoother substance for fine needle injections into the lip area. Allergic reactions are rare, due to hyaluronic acid being a natural body substance. The injection procedure lasts approximately 20 minutes, and there is no downtime.
Side Effects – After injection, you may experience some redness, minimal swelling, or bruising at the injection site, which should not last more than a week.
Post Injection Recommendations – It is suggested that you do not wear makeup for the first 12 hours. It is also wise to avoid the sun or saunas for 2 weeks following injections. Further filler injections should be postponed for at least 7 days following initial injection.
Volbella For Lovely Lips?
Some positive features of Volbella are centered around less pain, more natural results, faster recovery, and longer-lasting effects. The faster recovery time reduces the risk of infection, and the new formula prevents permanent swelling of the injected area.
With a longer-lasting formula, maintenance and the cost of future injections is limited. Any side effects are temporary, and there is no downtime involved. Volbella also adds a silky sheen to the lips, which is something else to smile about.
There are always a few drawbacks to newly introduced products. Lumpy results may occur, if the injector is not properly trained to use this product. While Volbella is great at defining and smoothing lip lines, it should not be expected to give volume or plumpness in the lip area, as other fillers might.
Depending on your expectations, Volbella may or may not be the product to create the lips that you want to see in the mirror. For subtle smoothing of fine lines around the lips to make them less noticeable, Volbella may just be the answer.
